Cameras...

I've been doing LOTS of research
on the best ways
and strategies
to get an Etsy shop underway.

One thing I'm a bit hung up on
is buying a new camera.

I need one
in order to take better quality
and higher resolution photos
of my larger
"unscannable" pieces
for printing.

(Plus, I just want a shnazzy new camera!)

So far...
I've been checking out these:

Via
It's the Canon EOS 40D.

And here's this one:

Via
This is the Nikon D3000 10.2MP

I've been reading reviews
on these two in particular,
but was curious if any of you
have other DSLR camera suggestions...

What do you shoot with?
Pros, cons?

  1. Im selling my camera if you're interested. Its not as awesome as the ones you're looking up but it took those pictures you see on my website lol.

I also had a zoom lens (beercan lens) to come with it but my husband accidentally dropped that on the floor and broke the sun guard. It still works without it.

Anyways, my camera is a Sony A55 with a basic 35mm lens.

If you're interested, I bought it for $1100.00
but since I've had it for about a year, its in darn good condition.
I'll give it to you for $800.00
and I'll include the zoom lens and ship it to you :)

It has a pop up flash built in, sensor lcd viewing screen, 16.2 Megapixels, etc.

  2. Jess have you checked out the Canon EOS 60D? It's slightly a bit more than the 40D but it has more features and it's right there below the Canon 7D. I don't know what your budget is, but I would suggest either the 60D, 7D, or the 5D Mark II. Also the thing with Canon's is you can find lenses for cheaper than you can with Nikon lenses. Obviously the more you pay for a lens the better glass quality you get, but I have found that there is more options with budget friendly lenses with having a Canon then there were when I was shooting with my Nikon.

I shoot with the 5D Mark II and I am looking in to getting the 7D as a backup.

Before I purchased my 5D Mark II I was photographing with a Nikon camera. It was a Nikon D50. Great starter camera, and Nikon's are really good cameras and very user friendly, but you already get photography and how to work camera's so you won't have any issues. But if you are going to go Nikon the D3000 is a great camera. They also are offering the mini DSLR Nikon D1. Ahhh I want one so bad. I think they are running at $500 or $600.

Anyway I hope I was some what helpful. I'm excited to see what you decide on and to see the awesome photos you take with it.

    Good Luck!

  5. This is unrelated to your actual post, but I'm getting caught up on the blogging world and I have to report that I've heard the most exciting news. A couple weeks ago, Suzy came up to me at church and told me that you are, in fact, a REAL PERSON and that her friend was sitting in your living room. Such a small world! I'm delighted to know (as Suzy also said to me) that you're not actually a creepy old man pretending to be a young woman. Yay!

p.s. I have a Nikon D90 and love it. I'm certainly on the Nikon train and have heard good things about the 3000. This guy is an excellent reviewer: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/

    2. If you ever do, we will make such a time out of it! We could come up with an stereotypical bloggers' weekend... maybe do some outfits shots, buy things with owls on them, and shop only at thrift stores.

  6. I just got a new camera myself. It is a Canon Power Shot, and I am having so much fun with it, and enjoying my Photography. It takes good pictures, and the zoom-in lens is amazing. I think you will enjoy getting a new camera. There is so much beauty in this world. Happy Easter, my friend.
